Review: Union Restaurant, Toronto

UNION restaurant located at 72 Ossington just north of Queen Street West has been Toronto’s new foody darling this past year.

The Ossington restaurants menu is short as the chef bases his offerings on whatever the freshest seasonal ingredient is for that season. Look forward to new flavours each and every visit with a few main stay favourites. The space is small so when dining on weekends make sure to arrive early or make a reservation as the bartender seems to have to turn a lot of people away. My sister arrived at 6:06pm and were told that the kitchen didn’t open until 6:30pm. So thrilled that we got seated quickly we glanced through the drinks list and ordered delicious pints of Austria’s sweet Stiegl Salsburger. We spent the evening gorging on well crafted local food and stroke up many a conversation with aging couple sitting beside us. Enjoy food and brilliant banter at UNION.

We enjoyed:

Union Salad: Organic greens with potato rosti, goat cheese and smoked bacon.

Honey and Tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich.

Ginger and Carrot Arancini stuffed with asiago with tomato jus.

Sticky Pork ribs with smoked and braised pork belly and seasonal vegetables.

Crispy Polenta Gratin with braised greens and fresh tomato jus.

Frites with garlic aioli and smashed potatoes.
