Review: Pizzeria Libretto, Toronto


At Dundas and Ossington sits one of Canada’s most famous Pizzeria’s, Pizzeria Libretto. This funky and ever so popular west end eatery offers the only Vera Pizza Napoletana certified experience in Canada. Libretto aims to be loyal to the people of Naples who invented the pizza pie. Using only natural ingredients and cooked in a wood fired oven at extremely high heat to achieve a charred and blistered crust there really is nothing else like it in the city. The restaurant uses San Marzano tomatoes and Fiore di Latte Mozzarella brought in fresh daily. The oven was actually hand-built for the restaurant by a 3rd generation pizza oven maker in Naples!

Libretto has become so famous that it is the quintessential restaurant where people are willing to wait two hours to be seated…therefore I do highly suggest going for lunch as the atmosphere is much more quiet and relaxed. Even more exciting is the great value for money available with their $15 Lunch Prezzo Fisso (Prix Fixe). You really can’t go wrong!

I took Meagahan Misener here as she had been living in China for the past year and was craving some European authenticity. The GM of the restaurant clearly hires people based on their looks. The overall restaurant experience was heightened by delicious smells and flavors, funky music and some stunning visuals (Read: very fit waiters).
