Travel to Noosa and The Sunshine Coast, Australia

For the Easter weekend Kat’s family drove us up north to the Sunshine Coast where they have a family summer home. The drive north reminded me exactly of the drive from Toronto up north to Ontario’s Muskoka Lake District. Families on the highway could be seen packed into their cars with beach gear a plenty! There were several classic rest stops along the way that also reminded me of Torontonian favorites like Webbers and The Muskoka Store…but here we had a few famous Aussie Meat Pie shops, the famous Ettamogah Pub and a hilarious Aussie joke gift shop which sold real Kangaroo Scrotum key chains and stuffed road kill frogs dressed in various costumes!

Once settled into our little cottage home we spent the next few days commuting to the local attractions along the coast. We visited a beautiful rustic and natural beach as well as the Sunshine Coasts famous ritzy surf resort towns Noosa, Mooloolaba and Coolum. The small town of Eumundi also has a weekend market which was jam packed full of home made arts and crafts, odd psychic spiritualists and corny Aussie trinkets.

On our last morning we woke up early and dropped into Steve Irwin’s famous Australia Zoo. I will never forget how it poured rain all day! We got seriously soaked staring at a wild collection of Australia’s most famous Marsupials, killer snakes and the ever so entertaining Crocodile shows!
