Driving New Zealand’s South Island’s West Coast

One of the most beautiful drives in New Zealand can be found on the west side of the island on Highway 6 along the rugged Tasman shoreline. We drove for hours on a beautiful blue sky day while stopping at several famous coastal hikes. Highlights include the Cape of Foulwind seal colony, rugged beach walks and the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. My pictures tell a thousand words.

We arrived in the evening at cutesy Mahinapua Hotel, affectionately known as the Poo Pub. The owner of the Poo Pub looks a bit like Santa and cooks up a massive steak dinner. The Pub features thousands of eccentric Kiwi Cultural items as well as group shots of all of the Pub’s past visitors. The night featured a themed P Party (everyone had to dress into an outfit inspired by the letter P). A few too many snake bites and we were running about at 2am chasing sheep and cows in the wide open pastures nearby. Reckless!
