Review: Z-teca, Toronto

On King Street at John Street right in the heart of the theater district is a little gourmet Burrito shop with a funny name. Z-teca is a Canadian-owned, fast-casual, California-style Burrito concept. They opened their first location in Toronto in 2007, with the idea of serving high quality, fresh, healthy “new-age” Mexican food, such as two-handed Burritos, Salads, Tacos and Quesadillas, all made to order. They offer ingredients such as fat-free sour cream, whole wheat tortillas, all white chicken breast and trans-fat free oils.

There are no microwaves, no added MSG, no fillers and no other fast food tricks, just real, wholesome food, made fresh on the premises daily. They roast their own tomatoes and hand-make their own fresh salsas and guacamole from produce that is delivered fresh every day. They also marinate their own meats and grill them right in front of you.

I have been several times and had the grilled chicken and pork carnitas burrito’s which were amazing. All burritos come with flour tortilla, cilantro-lime rice, black beans, roasted corn, low fat sour cream, Monterey Jack Cheese and a choice of salsas (I like their Mango Salsa).

#98 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
