Business Women’s Special, a Queer party in Kensington Market had its 1-Year Anniversary last Saturday. I have enjoyed this gay romp over the past calendar year and thought I would mark the party’s birthday with a selection of my favorite BWS portraits.
The parties name comes from a memorable quote from the campy cult flick Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. The DJ’s play pop, electro, R&B and hip hop until the wee hours of the night. A photographer takes pictures of party goers and drinks crash and splash across the dance floor. The Party Planning Committee: Michael Yerxa and April Wozny always do a great job at hosting the event. They sort of make you feel as though you are running up the stairs to an impromptu house party.
Hot Tips: I always get to the venue, Augusta House (on Augusta just north of Dundas) between 10-11pm. Long lines form after 11 and peak at midnight so I figure its best to chill inside with friends…far better than standing crunched over in a line looking like a mangled manic waiting for the doors to open Saturday morning at the Service Liquor.
I’d also like to give a shout out to All Cute Boys: my beverages are Strongbow Cider, Gin and Tonic and Cranberry Ameretto with a squeeze of lime. If you find me floating under the disco ball tap me on the shoulder and we’ll find some common ground.
