Review: Luma, Toronto


The Tim Burton Exhibit premiered this evening at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox. I was thrilled to scoot past the eager crowds, ascend to the second floor, past the Blackberry Lounge and into the spacious open concept and beautifully lit LUMA.

I was joined by Shawn Rusich from Butter PR.. Executive Chef, Jason Bangerter and his kitchen team certainly wowed us with their attention to detail and impeccable menu offerings. The cocktail list is fun, wine list extensive (I opted for my favorite Niagara Cave Springs Gewurztraminer) and a decadent dessert menu is hard to pass up (butter popcorn flavored ice cream? Yes Please)!

This is now the new go to spot if you are planning a night out at Roy Thomson Hall for the Symphony or for the latest art house film playing at the TIFF Bell Lightbox downstairs. It is rumored that LUMA’s brunch is now one of the best in the city! With an amazing patio and windows from ceiling to floor…I can imagine the mornings are a stunning spot to stare out on King Street as the weekend passes by.

We enjoyed:

Grilled Ocotopus

smoked paprika, preserved lemon, candied olives, arugula and red lentils

Scallop Sashimi

sliced thinkly with celery leaves, herbs, radish and ginger vinaigrette

Burrata

fresh mozzarella cheese with beetroot, roasted eggplant, marjoram and pine nut inaigrette

Foie Gras Torchon

pineapple, brioche, macadamia nut and vanilla

Truffled Scrambled Eggs

scrambled eggs, shaved white truffle, parmeggiano reggiano

Tagliatelle

confit duck, butternut squash, toasted almonds, sage and parmesan

Steak Frites

luma pepper rub, northern woods mushrooms and truffle butter

frites tossed in truffle oil, herbs and parmesan
