Review: Chipotle Mexcan Grill, Toronto

The first time I remember hearing about Chipotle Mexican Grill was when I watched the owner of the company interviewed on the Oprah show. He spoke passionatly about how fast food restaurants need to take more social responsibility for the meals they are serving. The food we eat doesn’t have to be bad for the animals and earth from where we source them or flown in on a refrigerated truck from half way across the country. His vision was to make locally sourced, fresh, “healthy” Mexican food using a fast food concept that utilized a Greener business model than the competition. At the time the restauarnt wasn’t available in Canada but I was eager to feast on his philosophy.

I was recently invited by the company to dine at their Yonge and Eglington location in Toronto (they have arrived in Canada, thumbs up). When doing research on the restaurant everyone I spoke with raved about the food. What a delight to eat at a fast food restaurant that asserts their pork and beef are all naturally raised! When on their website I really appreciated their messaging about where their food comes from. I double dare McDonald’s or KFC to be as transparent! I was also thrilled that this fast food chain had beer and margerita’s on their menu (shake those pom poms with excitement).

Check out this amazing stop motion animation courtesy of Chipotle Mexican Grill! Love it!

I invited my good friend Kristen Hodges to join me after work as she lives in the area. We started by sampling the restaurants four salsas, guacamole and sour cream with nachos. I then hopped in line and ordered our hard and soft tacos and burrito. We enjoyed two Margaritas throughout our meal, which I should note were strong, and by the time I was heading out the door and waving goodbye the tequila had done its best work.

We enjoyed:

Negra Modelo Cerveza

Margaritas

Nachos with Four Salsa, Guacamole and Sour Cream

Chicken Burrito

cilantro lime rice, pinto beans, mild salsa, cheese, sour cream

Carnitas Crisp Corn Taco

Barbacoa Soft Flour Tortilla

#214 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
