The Pickle Barrel at Dundas Square in Toronto

My first memory of eating at the Pickle Barrel was when I was a very small child with my Aunt Judy, who just recently passed away. I joined my family at the Yonge and Dundas location before our matinée of Billy Elliot. I wanted to be sure to order a milkshake with my meal as I have a very profoundly crisp memory (even at such a young age) of  dinner with my Aunt Judy at this restaurant. I remember trying to figure out what I was going to order…she immediately encouraged me to order a milkshake. I looked at her in astonishment. I would never dream of ordering a milkshake (my mother wouldn’t have it…anything with whipped cream and cherry on top was classified as a dessert not a beverage). I remember getting so excited when the glass arrived at the table. Meals with my Aunt Judy were always over the top and celebratory, so I decided to order another Strawberry Milkshake some 20 years later in her honour.

NOTE: I found the Tex Mex Spring Rolls seriously odd. Check out the picture. You’ll notice they were served with a hoisen sauce and pickled ginger. I think the cooks in the kitchen goofed up and served us the wrong dish. If this dish was intentional than I need to send a world map to the chef. Texas/Mexico is down here *drags finger across map* Asia is over here.

We enjoyed:

Strawberry Milkshake

Lobster Grilled Cheese

The Great Reuben Sandwich

Crispy Fried Tex Mex Spring Rolls

Harolf Mecklinger Cobb Salad

Tilapia with Creamy Lobster Topping
