Joey Restaurant at Dundas Square in Toronto

This past summer I was walking along Dundas and came across a lively restaurant with massive garage door lifted patio. I stared from the street at the throngs of people waiting in line to eat and the happy smiles exchanged by brewski and cocktail cheers-ing 30 somethings. I made a note in my head that I had to visit this new West Coast import

Joey Restaurant at Dundas Square was buzzing at 6pm when we arrived. Several groups waited to be seated whilst sipping on cocktails and glasses of wine. We were seated at a booth with a window overlooking Dundas Street, perfect for people watching.

Joey Restaurant at Dundas Square features beautiful drift wood accents and stunning chandeliers over the host station. The majority of the space is set up as a sports bar with massive flat screens. I can imagine that Joey’s would be the go to spot to watch a hockey game (that one with the pucks and sticks and things) or soccer (the one with attractive men running about a vast field of green). I’m no sports fan but I do appreciate the fruits of their labor.

Triple Threat

The Joey Restaurant menu features a wild selection of Japanese and Indian inspired dishes with West Coast panache and a sizeable Steakhouse offering. Before I visited Joey I asked my twitter lovers what their favourite dishes were. I received a flood of tweets exclaiming that the Baja Fish Tacos were a must have (they were the highlight of the meal). The Crispy Mashed Potatoes are typically served with their steak offerings but since I asked nicely they offered two on a side plate for us to sample. Good lord heaven is mashed potato stuffed spring rolls deep fried and topped with sour cream, bacon and cheddar. They currently have a delicious sweet offering for the Fall: piping hot pumpkin donuts tossed in sugar, cinnamon and dipped in dulce del leche.
