I recently visited Big Daddy’s Bourbon Street Bistro on King Street with a few friends after a busy work day. It is located directly across from Roy Thomson Hall and kitty corner to St. Andrew’s Station in Toronto’s Theater District. I arrived on a cold winters night, fingers freezing and cheeks filled with rouge. After settling at my table I strolled through the restaurants huge dining room and bar decked out in New Orleans inspired decorum.
Working with restaurant management prior to our arrival I had coordinated a menu showcasing their unique offerings. I have placed an * beside my favorites:
Wyndham Estate Bin 333 Pinot Noir *
Big Daddy’s Hurricane *
Big Daddy’s Caesar *
Bourbon St. Margarita
French Kiss Oysters
Smoked Duck Salad *
Shrimp, Crab and Chorizo Fritters *
Fried Cheese and Grits *
Southern Fried Pickle Spears *
Seafood Signature Fondue
King Rex Lobster
Shrimp and Bronzed Chicken Etouffee *
Knife and Fork Pulled Pork
Big Daddy’s BBQ Pork Back Ribs *
Big Daddy’s Pecan Pie *
Bourbon Street Bread Pudding
As you can see we managed a marathon of a feast. I had to encourage my guests to pull through as we entered the last phase of our meal, polishing off the last two entrees we were all feeling bloated and gastronomically spent. But like any top performing athele we had our eyes on the prize and successfully crossed the finish line with a cup of Cappuccino and caramel covered bread pudding and pecan pie. The service was exemplary (we were given hundreds of forks “just in case we needed them.”) Big Daddy’s provides the Southern hospitality you expect. A comfortable New Orleans inspired oasis in Toronto’s Theater District.
#271 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
