French Feast at The Gabardine on Bay Street in Toronto

The Gabardine is a relaxed hipster haunt in the thick of cash-money Bay Street. I honestly felt really odd walking into the place as it feels like the space has been transplanted from Queen Street West or Ossington. If I felt a bit awkward (awkward reads, unexpected) I wonder how the “suit and ties” who pop in here for client lunch meetings and late night team dinners feel like when their server is comfortably dressed in plaid and jeans.

The staff seem bubbly and full of energy. I’m guessing they feel empowered through their laissez-faire attire and the exemplary food they are serving to the 9-5 stiff-as-a-board bank crowd. While the economy withers and wretches along Bay I’m happy to announce that The Gabardine holds its head high with a creative cocktail list and honest yet indulgent French inspired menu.
