Brunch at Langdon Hall in Cambridge

After a rather epic dinner at Langdon Hall, readying ones body for a blissful breakfast the following morning requires only a few lunges and downward dogs. We strolled along our foot path in an attempt to “break the fast,” while smiling at a forest covered in fog. Our mind, body and spirit awakened for yet another memorable mealtime.

As we walked up to the hostess table I could smell the delightful aroma of freshly ground coffee beans (my eyes dilated ready for the mornings quick fix). In the centre of the dining room stood a robust harvest table which featured: freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat, muffins, pastries, house made preserves, Langdon maple granola, cereals, Niagara fruit, morning prepared quiche,  locally sourced cheese, cured meats and fish. Eyes bulge as our jaws drop. We lick our lips and try to visually index all of the items on the table we hope to sample as we are ushered towards our seats.

While resting elbows on white linen we sipped on freshly squeezed juices as we pursued the menu. As if the harvest table wasn’t enough, guests also have the satisfaction of ordering a breakfast inspired entree a la carte.

Sunday morning breakfast for so many of us is a borderline religious ritual we look forward to sharing with friends each week. Langdon Hall does an exceptional job at showcasing local flavours while providing the relaxing atmosphere we all need as our bodies refuel.

Once finished breakfast we strolled into a private dining room where Langdon Hall’s Chef de Cuisine David Sider spent the next hour entertaining hotel guests with a wee cooking demonstration. He prepared two dishes while chatting away with his attentive audience. That particular morning he started off with a dish featuring brussels sprouts, caviar and heaps of butter. He finished off with a stew featuring forrest mushrooms, shallots, tomatoes and another few massive scoops of butter.

Profound memories of my final moments at Langdon Hall will be richly sweetened with these glorious dabs of butter. My hopes, my dreams…sigh.

We enjoyed:

Bourbon Smoked Beans

Yogurt Parfait

honeyed berries, hazelnut praline

Baked Sour Dough Egg and Cheese

caramelized onion, wilted arugula, tarragon aioli

Brioche French Toast

black walnut, bourbon, vanilla syrup
